This month's theme: Through the Hawthorn Gate
In Irish folklore, the hawthorn tree is no ordinary tree. It grows alone on hillsides and at the edge of fields and in May it fills with tiny white blossoms. It is said to be the doorway to the fairy world and in Ireland, you never cut one down.
This May, your little one steps through the hawthorn gate and into the world of Clíodhna, the fairy queen of Munster, keeper of a garden so full of flowers that even the darkness there was bright. She listens at the hawthorn every Bealtaine morning for children who tend their gardens with care.
Is your little one ready?
What's in the box:
🌸 Nasturtium Empress of India seeds One of the most dramatic nasturtiums you can grow. Deep red and orange flowers on dark blue-green leaves, trailing and tumbling over the edges of pots like a waterfall of colour. And the flowers are edible peppery, beautiful and perfect for pressing into biscuit dough.
🫛 Pea Kelvedon Wonder seeds A climbing pea variety perfectly suited to Irish conditions and container growing. Children build a teepee from twigs and string, plant their peas at the base and watch them wind their way up using tiny curling tendrils. When the pods are plump and green... pop one open and eat the peas straight from the plant.
🥦 Broccoli microgreens The fastest thing in the box. Plant them today and they'll be ready to eat in just 7–10 days. They become a central part of this month's fairy garden. A living, growing pot of tiny shoots that Clíodhna herself would tend.
🌱 Peat free compost coins No compost at home? No problem. Drop your compost coin in a bowl, add warm water and watch it expand. Everything your seeds need to get started. No mess, no fuss, no garden required.
This month's activities:
🧚 Build a fairy garden Using the fairy door, window, mushrooms and hedgehog included in the box, children build a magical fairy hideaway. The broccoli microgreens become the fairy plant, growing right beside the door for Clíodhna to tend.
🏕️ Pea teepee Build a climbing structure from twigs and string for your Kelvedon Wonder peas. No outdoor space? Build a tiny fairy teepee instead using small sticks, a bow of ribbon, a pebble at the door.
🎨 Colour wheel Children discover how to mix brand new colours using the six paints included. Perfect for decorating the fairy door before building begins.
🪨 Story stones Children paint smooth stones with characters from the May folklore story and use them to tell their own fairy tales. A beautiful open-ended activity that grows with every box.
🐝 Be a bee game Children become the bee, buzzing from flower to flower, collecting pollen on a paintbrush and spreading it between blooms. A hands-on way to understand one of nature's most important relationships.
This month's recipes:
🌸 Nasturtium flower biscuits Butter biscuits with edible nasturtium flowers pressed into the dough. Beautiful, simple and made with something growing right on your windowsill.
🫛 Cheesy pea quesadillas Children pop open their own pea pods, scatter the peas into a cheesy tortilla and watch it turn golden in the pan. Sweet, melty and completely delicious.
🌿 Fairy garden wrap Broccoli microgreens snipped fresh from the fairy garden pot, layered with grated carrot and cucumber in a soft tortilla. From seed to plate in less than two weeks.
This month's folklore story:
📖 Clíodhna's Garden A tale from the fairy lore of Ireland, the story of a fairy queen who listens through the roots of the hawthorn tree for children who tend their gardens with care. When she hears a child whisper a promise to their seeds, she reaches through the gate and leaves a little of her magic behind.
Written especially for Little Sprouts Garden Box. Read aloud in about 10 minutes.

For the Days That Move Too Fast...
Do you ever feel like the weeks are simply vanishing? You see the beautiful "nature play" ideas online and save them for "someday," but between the school run, the dinner rush, and the mental load of modern parenting, "someday" never quite arrives.
Instead, the screen goes on, and that quiet, connected moment you craved slips away.
You aren’t failing; you’re just busy. You deserve a way to make the "good stuff" easy.
What if nature did the heavy lifting for you? What if, once a month, a bundle of wonder arrived at your door, ready to go? No planning, no Pinterest-scrolling, no "mess anxiety." Just you, your child, and the quiet magic of a growing seed.
